Dr Jen Unwin is a consultant clinical health psychologist who has spent her professional life focussing on the role of hope in chronic disease and how it can be used to bring about behaviour change and improve quality of life.
Her insights teamed up perfectly with Dr David Unwin’s interests in bringing about drug-free type 2 diabetes remission. For nine years they have been running group sessions in primary care to achieve just that, so far for over 100 patients, saving considerable amounts on de-prescribed drugs.
Since retiring from the NHS, she has devoted her time to learning about, researching and helping others with sugar addiction. She has published a book called ‘Fork in the Road: A hopeful guide to food freedom’, the proceeds of which are for The Public Health Collaboration.

Dr Nina Fuller-Shavel is an Integrative Medicine doctor, scientist and educator with degrees in Medicine and Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, as well as an ongoing MSc in Precision Cancer Medicine at the University of Oxford. Dr Fuller-Shavel is a Fellow of them College of Medicine and the Co-Chair of BSIO (British Society for Integrative Oncology). Alongside her scientific and medical training and over a decade’s experience in integrative health, Dr Nina Fuller-Shavel holds multiple qualifications in nutrition, integrative medicine, functional medicine (IFMCP), health coaching (FMCA), herbal medicine, yoga, mindfulness and other therapeutic approaches.
Dr Fuller-Shavel is the founder and Director of Synthesis Clinic, an innovative multidisciplinary practice in Hampshire, specialising in women’s health and integrative cancer care. Dr Nina Fuller-Shavel has recently won a prestigious Innovation Leader of the Year award at UKBIA 2022 for her inspirational vision for healthcare, excellence in clinical work and leadership of the Synthesis Clinic team. Sumantra (Shumone) Ray is a Licensed Medical Doctor as well as a Registered Nutritionist (Public Health), with special interests in Nutrition Education in Health Systems and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention. Since 2008 he has been Founding Chair and Executive Director of the NNEdPro Global Centre for Nutrition and Health, headquartered in Cambridge and working across twelve regional networks across six continents including a highly active Indian contingent. In 2018 he became the Co-Founder and Chair of BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health. Shumone is a Director of Research in Cambridge and a Bye-Fellow of Fitzwilliam College at the University of Cambridge. He holds Visiting Professorships in Imperial College London School of Public Health, Ulster University Schools of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences as well as further afield in Wollongong Australia. He is also Honorary International Dean for the Lord Rana Foundation Charitable Trust’s Cordia Colleges in Punjab, India.

FP6 and the NNEdPro Global Centre for Nutrition and Health, led by Shumone has co-developed and adapted the award-winning ‘Mobile Teaching Kitchen’ or MTK intervention for use.

Dr David Unwin FRCGP works at the Norwood NHS Surgery in Southport near Liverpool, UK where he has cared for the same population since 1986 as a family doctor. To date 105/206 of his patients with T2 diabetes have achieved drug-free remission. This gives a remission rate of 50% at 30 months duration of a lower carb diet, one of the best results for any clinic in the world!

Mark Hollingsworth is the CEO of the Nutrition Society, a scientific learned society, based in London, United Kingdom, a position he has held since 2014. I met Mark in 2017 when I was fortunate enough to work for the Nutrition Society and we have stayed in touch ever since.

Upon leaving the Royal Air Force Hollingsworth then developed extensive leadership experience in the non-profit sector, serving as a Director, Vice-President, Executive Director and Board Chair in Canada. This was followed by a two- year period as a visiting lecturer on Leadership at the University of Winnipeg in Canada, during which time he published two books on the basic skills of leadership. He returned to the United Kingdom in 2014 to take up his role as CEO of the Nutrition Society.
He was awarded CEO of The Year for life sciences in 2018 by CEO Today Magazine, the Global 100 CEO of the Year for Life Sciences in 2019, and has been named in 2021 as one of the Top 20 Most Dynamic CEOs in the United Kingdom by CEO Publications.
